HISTORY OF OUR SCHOOL
The SECPAD MODEL SCHOOL is located at karsha-Yulsum area in Zanskar valley of KARGIL district in UT Ladakh The school Postal pin-code is 194302.
This School was established in the year 1996 with the aim and objective of imparting modern as well as traditional way of education to the children of the Zanskar valley in the view of inculcating up-to-date education and to promote and preserve the rich culture, tradition & language of the native land of Zanskar valley.
The SECPAD MODEL SCHOOL is a Pvt. Unaided institute run by one non-profitable NGO namely; Social Education Culture Preservation And Development (SECPAD) Society of Karsha-Yulsum Locality of Zanskar Subdivision, District Kargil in UT Ladakh whose working committee members have been providing voluntary service for the society and its school.
The school has been receiving humanitarian financial support for its educational projects & activities from a German foundation namely; Reinhard Und Marianne Athenstaedt-Stiftung Foundation founded by a late Madam Marianne of Bremen, Germany. Thanks to the support received form the German foundation, the school has all the infrastructural assets like class rooms, labs, exam halls, play grounds and many other necessary rooms to accommodate variety of functions/ activities carried out in other recommendable schools in other parts of the country.
A HUMBLE BEGINNING
SECPAD MODEL SCHOOL was initially started from primary level in 1996 and was upgraded to Middle level in year 2001 as the students progressed with their studies and the parents' growing desire to see their wards carrying on their studies forward within the village.
The school was further upgraded to High school level in 2021 and got affiliated to the Jammu Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBoSE) as a mark of recognition to the quality of education being offered in the school. This further encouraged the local families as well as those belonging to distant villages of Zanskar who could not afford sending their children to distant places like Kargil or Leh. That explains why the SECPAD MODEL SCHOOL has successively gained the faith of parents and has become a popular school of Zanskar valley.
The school is a Co-Educational institution with current strength of about 100 day scholars and 70 hostellers. A safe, comfortable and healthy environment for the hosteller students has especially encouraged families of distant and far flung villages of Zanskar Valley to send their daughters for education in this school which makes us proud for making a significant contribution towards educating and empowering the daughters of Zanskar Valley.
In the hostel the children are provided with warm bedding facilities and nutritious meals with 24 x 7 solar light facility. The hostellers have also access to clean water for drinking and washing while the facility of solar water heaters makes life comfortable for them during the early spring and late Autumn season when climates gets cold and the school continues function till the peak winter arrives and they return to their respecive homes for winter holidays. Provision of Mid-Day-Meal (MDM) to the day scholar too has encouraged the parents and children to continue their school education.
The main medium of instruction in SECPAD MODEL SCHOOL is the local Ladakhi/Tibetan language which happens to be the mother tongue of our children, along with Hindi and English as supplementary language as per the national 'Three Language' policy. This has helped our students tremendously in making the learning process simple during school years and also easy for preparing them to adopt to the demands of higher learning after the completion of their school education.
A QUARTER CENTURY OF COMMUNITY SERVICE
SECPAD MODEL SCHOOL completed its 25th year of establishment in 2021 and has attained a unique place in the educational, social and cultural life of Zanskar Valley because of its commendable standards in providing good quality education to the students of this remote region of India. In its long educational journey, the SECPAD school has till date produced around 200 bright and successful students among whom many have secured respectable Govt jobs in and around their native place.
Many students, produced by our school, today occupy good positions in various government departments while a large section among them has joined various professions to make a respectable place for themselves in the private sector after completing their higher educations and treining at different institutions across India. This achivement of its children has given Zanskar a place of pride in Ladakh.
GOING BEYOND REGULAR EDUCATION
Besides regular education the SECPAD MODEL SCHOOL also provides facilities and environment for a host of extra-curricular activities which help the children in growing mental as well as physical faculties further to bring out thier respective hidden talents and prepares them in due course for pursuing the best suitable career and the ccourse of higher education after their school studies. These include sports and Yoga; picnics in beautiful natural places in Zanskar; Drawing and Painting Competitions; Essay Writing; Speech Contests; Inter School Quiz; and other activities which help children to develop their individual hidden talents.
The school organize annual school sports meet, culture day, and school picnic besides celebrating most of the national and international important days by organizing inter house quiz, drawing, essay writing and speech contest to keep the children enlightened about the world around him besides the book knowledge.
The school also takes participation in inter school quiz, sports and other writing contest in which secpad school has secured/ begged many prizes and had the opportunity and honour to represent Zanskar subdivision as the first school from Zanskar at district( Kargil) level quiz contest in year 2022 which was unprecedented in the history of the valley.
